Busy Life / Calm Mind

Mondays: Nov 4, 11, 18, 25 – 19.00 to 20.30
with Kadam Tim

Do you have a busy life? Do you know anyone who doesn’t have a busy life? It seems we are all pretty busy. On top of our work, education or family responsibilities, there’s lots of people to keep in touch with, lots of commitments to keep, not to mention the many interesting things there are to do in and around Copenhagen!

Are we doing too much? Probably. Could we cut down on our activities? Maybe. But what if we can’t at the moment? How do we stay sane, and stress-free in the midst of all our busy-ness?

A calm mind is really important. With a calm mind we can enjoy our activities. Developing a meditation practice will definitely help. Many people experience that the small time investment of a meditation practice, or joining a meditation class, pays off significantly in terms of our ability to get things done – and do them with a calm mind.

In these classes, you will learn to meditate, how to build a meditation practice and develop wisdom-based ways of thinking that help you keep your mind calm in daily life. Along the way, you will also develop some personal insights about your busy life. Maybe we can’t do much about our busy lives, but we can definitely do something about our busy mind!

Modern Buddhism: Buddhist psychology and philosophy for our times

Wednesdays, every week – 18.30 to 20.30
with Kadam Tim

In this regular and ongoing series of classes, you will be introduced to the main themes of Buddhism. We will cover topics such as Understanding the mind, Buddhist faith, Refuge and protection, Karma and purification, the Nature of reality and Tantra (inner protection for the mind).

What happens at this class?

The classes consist of teachings, meditation, discussion and question & answer. Classes are also social events where there is an opportunity to meet like-minded people – both Danish and international.

Traditionally, Buddhist teachings begin with some chanted meditations. These last between 5 and 15 minutes and will be explained. You are free to engage in these or not as you wish.,

The classes are open to anyone on a “drop-in” basis. For those who wish to start on our Foundation Program in the new year, the series will provide a good grounding in the main Buddhist themes.

There will be an emphasis on the practical application of Buddhism to our daily life, to solve our problems and develop calm and happy minds. The series is based on the book Modern Buddhism by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso which can be downloaded for free here or purchased in the Centre bookshop.

How to join these classes

You can simply “drop-in” to these classes at 18.30 on Wednesdays. If you have any questions about “Modern Buddhism: Buddhist psychology and philosophy for our times”, please feel free to write to us at info@meditateincopenhagen.org

(You do not need to be a Buddhist to attend and benefit from these classes. We never ask about participants beliefs, but the vast majority of people who attend the Centre appear not to identify themselves as Buddhists but just people looking for solutions to daily problems.)
