What is a puja?
Discover the peaceful spiritual energy that comes from engaging in chanted Buddhist meditation practices in a group setting. Experience for yourself the richness of the Kadampa Buddhist meditation tradition to discover a deep peace of mind and happiness that comes from making a heartfelt connection with enlightenment, and awakening our inner potential for love, compassion and wisdom.
We offer regular group chanted meditation sessions (known as pujas in Sanskrit) at Kadampa Meditation Centre, Copenhagen, that are open to everyone and free of charge. These are beautiful chanted Buddhist prayers, (chanted in English). They have been practised for centuries by Kadampa Buddhist meditators and are a perfect method to help everyone (Buddhist and non-Buddhist) make a connection with enlightenment, awaken our spiritual energy and potential and contribute towards creating a more peaceful and compassionate world.
Whilst our pujas are open to everyone, it is generally helpful to attend introductory meditation classes before attending these pujas. People sit on chairs or on cushions on the floor. Puja booklets (known as sadhanas) are available if you would like to participate in the chanting. Also, you can simply sit back, relax and enjoy listening to the chanting. The understanding, meaning and benefits of the pujas will become clear over time. Unlike other events at KMC Copenhagen, pujas do not involve teaching or guided meditations.
What is Heart Jewel Puja (with Lamrim meditation)?
This chanted meditation practice (Puja in Sanskrit) is the heart practise of the Kadampa Buddhist meditation tradition. In the first part we make a heartfelt connection with the wisdom Buddha Je Tsongkhapa, and then make special prayers and requests to purify negativity & obstacles in our life, accumulate positive energy or merit, and receive blessings / inspiration.
There is a 10 minute silent period in the middle of the puja for personal meditation. In this silent period we can either meditate on the stages of the path to enlightenment (known as Lamrim) or engage in a meditation of our own choice.
In the second part of the puja, we make special Buddhist prayers to the Dharma Protector, the wisdom Buddha Dorje Shugden. Through this we can overcome obstacles to our spiritual practice and create favourable conditions so that we can nurture and increase our spiritual realisations of love, compassion, wisdom and so forth.
