Eight Steps to Happiness
The Buddhist Way of Loving Kindness

New series starts Thursday Oct 19th | 19:00 to 20:30 | with Gen Daö | KMC CPH

Discover the eight essential steps to happiness in these weekly meditation classes. Happiness is a state of mind, so the real source of happiness must lie within the mind, not in external conditions. If our mind is pure and peaceful we shall be happy, regardless of our external circumstances, but if it is unpeaceful we can never be truly happy.

Buddha taught that true happiness arises from the mind of love. By learning to love others purely we will overcome anger, jealousy and other painful feelings. In these classes, learn simple meditations that will awaken your potential for a kind and peaceful heart and bring extraordinary results into your daily life: loving relationships, stable happiness, and the ability to accept and transform all life’s difficulties.

Countryside meditation retreat
– Living with love, compassion & wisdom

October, Fri 27th to Sun 29th | with Gen Daö | at Langebæk Course & Retreat Center, Petersgaard Alle 2, 4772 Langebæk

Enjoy a deeply relaxing weekend of talks & guided meditations, in the tranquil setting of Langebaek retreat centre, in the beautiful southern Zealand countryside. Everyone is welcome. This meditation retreat is suitable for beginners to meditation and those with more experience.

About the meditation retreat

Discover the power of living with real love, compassion and wisdom for improving our life and all our relationships. At this time the world needs more love, compassion & wisdom. In this retreat we will discover how we can all accomplish this. We will learn meditations and ways of relating to daily life, that have proven effective for centuries in enabling everyone to live and grow these good qualities.

We will explore meditations that enable us to access and maintain inner peace and joy, even when experiencing difficulties. Connecting to the natural peace and joy within our mind opens us up to recognising and identifying with the potential for happiness, love, compassion and other good qualities that exist within each and everyone of us. We will explore how meditation enables us to connect to, strengthen and grow this inner potential.

This retreat will be based on meditations and practises for daily life explained in the inspiring book ‘The new eight steps to happiness’ by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso. This highly practical manual for personal development shows us how we can use every situation we meet in life – good or bad – to strengthen and grow our love, compassion & wisdom. In this way we will gradually find a deep and lasting inner peace, happiness and well-being within, no matter what is happening in our life. We will discover there is no more powerful and positive way to solve our own and others problems – as well as live a truly happy and fulfilling life – than to live with love, compassion & wisdom.

Introduction to Tantra

November, Sat 11th |10:00 to 15:00 | with Gen Daö | at KMC CPH

Nowadays, Tantra is very popular. However, there is a lot of misunderstanding about the real meaning of this inspiring and highly practical inner training. In this workshop, we will discover how the basis for training in Tantra is realizing that everyone has an extraordinary potential to live a life of great freedom and joy. In Tantric meditation, we find the perfect methods to access and fully actualise this inner potential.

Gen Daö will explain how, by learning to experience increasingly subtle and deeply peaceful levels of mind in meditation, we gain clear insight into the nature and potential of our mind, and the nature of reality. Through these insights we come to understand that we and others have the freedom to change, to become the truly loving, compassionate and wise person we would wish to be.

Course fee: 300kr | students 200kr | member 150kr

The workshop fee includes coffee, tea and biscuits. Lunch can be found in the many good restaurants and cafes near the Centre.

Puja / Chanted meditation sessions (with tsog)

Discover the peaceful spiritual energy that comes from engaging in chanted Buddhist meditation practices in a group setting. Experience for yourself the richness of the Kadampa Buddhist meditation tradition to discover a deep peace of mind and happiness that comes from making a heartfelt connection with enlightenment, and awakening our inner potential for love, compassion and wisdom.

We offer regular group chanted meditation sessions (known as pujas in Sanskrit) at Kadampa Meditation Centre, Copenhagen, that are open to everyone and free of charge. These are beautiful chanted Buddhist prayers, (chanted in English). They have been practised for centuries by Kadampa Buddhist meditators and are a perfect method to help everyone (Buddhist and non-Buddhist) make a connection with enlightenment, awaken our spiritual energy and potential and contribute towards creating a more peaceful and compassionate world.

Whilst our pujas are open to everyone, it is generally helpful to attend introductory meditation classes before attending these pujas. People sit on chairs or on cushions on the floor. Puja booklets (known as sadhanas) are available if you would like to participate in the chanting. Also, you can simply sit back, relax and enjoy listening to the chanting. The understanding, meaning and benefits of the pujas will become clear over time. Unlike other events at KMC Copenhagen, pujas do not involve teaching or guided meditations.

On this page you will find details of our monthly special puja schedule known as tsog offering pujas (see below for explanations). Our spring / summer tsog puja schedule is as follows:-

September 3st, Friday – 18:00 to 19:15 – Wishfulfilling Jewel (with tsog)
October 1st, Sunday – 18:00 to 19:15 – Wishfulfilling Jewel (with tsog)
October 20th, Friday – 18:00 to 19:15 – Wishfulfilling Jewel (with tsog)
November 17th, Friday – 18:00 to 19:15 – Wishfulfilling Jewel (with tsog)
December 10th, Sunday – 13:00 to 15:00 – Offering to the Spiritual Guide (with tsog)

Wishfulfilling Jewel Puja (with tsog)

This is an extended version of ‘Heart Jewel Puja’ which is the heart practise of the Kadampa Buddhist meditation tradition. In the first part we make a heartfelt connection with the wisdom Buddha Je Tsongkhapa, and then make special prayers and requests to purify negativity & obstacles in our life, accumulate positive energy or merit, and receive blessings / inspiration.

There is a 10 minute silent period in the middle of the puja for personal meditation. In this silent period we can either meditate on the stages of the path to enlightenment (known as Lamrim) or engage in a meditation of our own choice.

In the second part of the puja, we make special Buddhist prayers to the Dharma Protector, the wisdom Buddha Dorje Shugden. Through this we can overcome obstacles to our spiritual practice and create favourable conditions so that we can nurture and increase our spiritual realisations of love, compassion, wisdom and so forth. This practice includes a tsog offering (see description below).

Offering to the Spiritual Guide Puja (with tsog)

This is a special chanted meditation practise of the Guru Yoga of Je Tsongkhapa. In this practise we make a connection with enlightenment by seeing the wisdom Buddha as inseparable from our Spiritual Guide. Through engaging in this chanted meditation practice our love, compassion, wisdom, and spiritual power naturally increase. This practice includes a tsog offering (see description below).

What is a tsog offering?

A tsog offering is a special offering (usually of vegetarian food and / or non-alcoholic drink), which we make to the Buddhas to make a special heartfelt connection with them and receive their inspiration and help on the spiritual path. You can bring a vegetarian food or non-alcoholic drink offering with you if you wish.

After the tsog puja everyone is very welcome to stay behind, as we usually have a little social get together, chat and share food and drink from the tsog offering. A great way to relax get to know the Sangha, our community of meditators here at the Centre, and meet with friends old and new!
