Love and courage

Mondays – Feb 3,10,17,24 – 19.00 to 20.30
with Kadam Tim

A few years ago, someone posted up flyers all around Copenhagen, saying “Love is the answer”. Is it? If love makes you happy, and love is the answer – how come it also seems to hurt sometimes? Can we love people more? Can you love someone you don’t like? How do you let go of past hurt and what is love anyway?

Buddha’s teachings, the Dharma, contains answers to all questions about love. By developing a wisdom that distinguishes between love and attachment, and by looking at difficult past experiences with a new perspective, we can grow our love for friends, family, colleagues and eventually all living beings.

But it takes courage to love actually. And especially to expand our love to include more people. In this series of classes you will learn ways of thinking that make it possible to do this. By taking ownership of relationship to others, “Love is the answer” will not just be a nice slogan, it will become our reality.

Modern Buddhism: What is karma?

Wednesdays Feb 5,12,19,26 – 18.30 to 20.30
with Kadam Tim

Everybody has heard the word “karma”. It’s almost become part of our day-to-day language. But what is karma and I how do I work with it? Why do bad things happen to good people – and vice versa? Is life fair? How can I understand my present experiences and how can I create the life I would like in the future? Can we really understand why things happen the way they do?

In our Modern Buddhism classes this month, we will explore the Law of Karma. It’s a fascinating and comprehensive subject that can explain our experiences in a meaningful way. There are also many misunderstandings about karma which will be addressed and resolved in the classes. You are welcome to join any class, but you will benefit most if you can join all four classes.

What happens at this class?

The classes consist of teachings, meditation, discussion and question & answer. Classes are also social events where there is an opportunity to meet like-minded people – both Danish and international. You are welcome to join from 18.00 for tea, biscuits and a chat with others 🙂

These evenings provide an opportunity to explore and discuss inner development on a profound level, using concepts from Buddhism.

There is an emphasis on the practical application of Buddhism to our daily life, to solve our problems and develop calm and happy minds. The series is based on the book Modern Buddhism by Geshe Kelsang Gyatso which can be downloaded for free here or purchased in the Centre bookshop.

You do not need to be a Buddhist to attend these classes. Buddhism is the practice of Buddha’s teachings – which can be of benefit to anyone.
