Being kind to yourself

Mondays: Sep 7,14,21,28 – 18.30 to 20.00
with Kadam Tim

In our Monday classes, we focus on the practice of meditation, and how to integrate meditation into your daily life.

Surely everyone would agree that being kind to yourself is a good thing. But what does actually it mean, and why are we so confused about it? What is the difference between being kind to yourself and indulging yourself? How can I enjoy myself without any form of guilt?

In these classes, we will explore this topic from the point of view of understanding our own mind and our pure potential. We will discover how to relate to ourself in such a way that we can truly be kind to ourself and enjoy our activities, based on self-insight and compassion for our self.

The meditation practices we teach come from an unbroken lineage of instructions that go back to the teachings of Buddha, over 2500 years ago. They are timeless instructions that are very relevant for developing and maintaining a peaceful mind in today’s world.

Teachings for these classes will be drawn from Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche’s books “How to Transform Your Life” and “How to Solve our Human Problems”. Hard copies of both books can be purchased at the Centre. A digital version of the latter is available here available here, and a digital version the former can be download for free here.

Modern Buddhism: Training in Affectionate Love

Wednesdays: September 2, 9, 16, 23, 30 – 18.30 to 20.30
with Kadam Tim

Affectionate love is a mind that feels warm and close to others. In this month’s Modern Buddhism classes we will explore ways of thinking that change the way we relate to others, so that we can feel warm-hearted and close to more people, and improve our relationship to people we are already close to.

Buddha taught clear techniques for developing our mind of love to include more and more people. And as the mind of love has no physical boundaries, we can learn to feel warm-hearted and close to others whether we are physically with them or not.

About Modern Buddhism classes

In our regular Wednesday classes, we are learning about how to apply Buddha’s teachings in modern daily life. The basis for the teachings come from Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche’s book Modern Buddhism. A hard copy of this book can be purchased at the Centre, or you can download a free digital version here..

The classes include teachings and discussions together with both chanted and guided meditations. No previous experience of Buddhism or meditation is needed. We sit on regular chairs and no special clothing is needed. Everyone is welcome and anyone can benefit from these teachings regardless of nationality, culture, background, gender or age. Doors open 30 minutes before the class starts and tea is served.

The focus of the classes this term are teachings and meditations on how to develop the minds of universal love and compassion.
