Class description
“No matter how much we succeed in improving our external conditions, they can never bring us the pure happiness nor provide real protection from suffering” – Geshe Kelsang Gyatso
So if real protection cannot be found by improving our external conditions, how are we to find the protection from suffering that we seek?
In this series we will explore how to find protection from suffering, both now and in the future, through relying on what is called in Buddhism “The 3 Jewels – Buddha, Dharma and Sangha”. By gaining experience of spiritual instructions (Dharma) we gain confidence in our ability to protect ourself from suffering. This brings confidence in the source of the teachings (Buddha) and others who practice them (Sangha). Examples of spiritual instructions are teachings on patient acceptance, love, compassion and wisdom. The real protection is our inner experience of these instructions.
Gradually we can come to understand through our own practice and experience how the “The 3 Jewels – Buddha, Dharma and Sangha” can provide complete protection from all suffering, both now and in the future. “Finding inner protection” is therefore a meaningful process that brings lasting mental peace. By joining these classes you will learn how to begin this process for yourself.
About the classes
We will explore this topic in this series of Monday classes during three classes in May. Each class can be attended individually or as part or the series and consists of an explanation of meditation, two guided meditations, a teaching, some discussion and an opportunity to ask questions.
As these teachings originate from Buddha, there will be short prayer in English during the class. However, you do not need to be a Buddhist or have any particular belief or faith to join the class and participate. Buddha taught for everyone.
Most people sit on chairs, though some meditation cushions are available. No previous experience is needed and you can “drop-in” to any class on Mondays. Tea is served from 17.45 and everyone is welcome 🙂
