Who can help me along the spiritual path?
24 Jun kl 18:00 - 19:40

All Buddhist traditions include a practice called “Relying upon a Spiritual Guide”. In this class we will explore the meaning and purpose of this practice, and why it is the foundation for all spiritual attainments.

We can begin to understand this from our ordinary experiences. For example, if we want to acquire special skills, become proficient at a particular sport, or learn to play a musical instrument well, we naturally seek a qualified teacher to instruct us. By following a teacher’s example, learning from their experience and sincerely applying his or her instructions, eventually we accomplish our aim and become just as skilled and proficient as our teacher.

In the same way, we need to rely upon a qualified Spiritual Guide to help us become free from our mental disturbances (such as anxiety, anger, craving etc.) and teach us how to develop and maintain a peaceful, positive mind. Through relying upon a qualified Spiritual Guide, our spiritual experience will quickly increase, and we will be able to accomplish our spiritual goals easily.

Everyone is welcome to attend, regardless of previous meditation experience. Whether you are new to meditation or looking to deepen your practice, this event offers valuable insights and practical tools to empower your spiritual journey.

About the series

This class is part of a 23 week series based on “The New Meditation Handbook” by Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche, which explains the step-by-step stages of the path to enlightenment known as “Lamrim” in Tibetan. This structured presentation of Buddha’s teachings is very helpful for modern people.

“The meditation practices presented in this book are actual methods to control our mind. Because everyone has different wishes and capacities, many different levels of meditation practice are given […]. By continuously engaging in these meditations with joy and patience, we will accomplish the ultimate goal of human life.” – Venerable Geshe Kelsang Gyatso Rinpoche

During this series you will learn 21 meditations and become familiar with the sadhana “Prayers for Meditation”. For anyone wishing to read along and practise the meditations at home, “The New Meditation Handbook” and the sadhana “Prayers for Meditation” can be purchased at the Copenhagen Centre.

Joining a class

Each class can be attended individually or as part of the series and consists of two guided meditations, a teaching, some discussion, and an opportunity to ask questions.

You do not need to be a Buddhist or have any particular belief or faith to join the class and participate – Buddha taught for everyone. With an open mind we guarantee that you will learn a lot and emerge a wiser and more skilled meditator!

Most people sit on chairs, though some meditation cushions are available. No previous experience is needed and you can “drop-in” to any class on Mondays.

Doors open at 17:45. After the class you’re invited to stay for tea to enjoy a community of like-minded people.
